Chatham small business introductions: M-R

Compiled by Gene Galin

Pittsboro, NC – Every December, the Chatham Chatlist has members submit their Chathamcentric small business introductions to the listserv. The submitals are posted throughout the week per alphabetic groups. This year we decided to compile them and post them to the Chatham Journal newspaper website.

If your business is located outside of Chatham County, isn’t it time you decided to move your business to Chatham County, NC?

New Beginnings Farm

New Beginnings Farm is a horse farm located just off of highway 64 between Pittsboro and Siler City that has been in operation for over 20 years.  New Beginnings Farm offers pony rides, summer camps, and riding lessons for all ages and levels.

Owning and operating New Beginnings Farm is my wildest childhood dream come true. It allows me to share my life long passion for horses every day. I specialize in teaching beginners of all ages.  My daughter operates her lesson program along side of me and offers jumping lessons.

We are currently offering a holiday special where you can, “Celebrate your Holiday on Horses.”  This is an opportunity for families to schedule a visit to the farm, have a horse ride, take photos, view and feed Texas Long Horns and chickens, enjoy a hot beverage, feed horse treats, and take home a New Beginnings Farm ribbon.

We also offer retirement horse boarding.  Call to check on availability and schedule a tour.

Please check out our website to learn more about us.

OneBite Business Solutions & Marketing

My husband, Jason, and I recently relocated to Pittsboro from California (don’t worry, we left all the bad parts of California behind) and are loving it here in North Carolina.

We are OneBite Business Solutions and OneBite Marketing

We help restaurants or other small businesses start, survive and thrive. We know how difficult running a brick and mortar business is, especially now.  You are so busy working IN your business, it’s hard to find the time to work ON it. But if you don’t keep moving forward, you will start to fall behind.  We help you identify the areas you need to improve in order to grow, and the best way to execute them.  Jason specializes in lease negotiations, construction/design, and general business operations.  We’ve opened over 20 restaurants on time and budget, from the ground up.  We’ve turned around dozens of restaurants from being unprofitable to being profitable in less than a year.

Tara has a marketing company and does general marketing for businesses including website content, e-mail content, local promotions, branding, etc.  Her website is onebitemarketing.com and she is a Storybrand Certified Marketing Guide.  She can help you get your message right so it resonates with your customers.  Your website is now the front door to your business. How does yours look?  Contact Tara for a free 30 minute website consultation.

We also have a conference space on our property where we can set up retreats or planning sessions for your business.  If you are looking for a great teambuilding or incentive for your company next year, don’t hesitate to reach out.  We can plan a day for you that is both productive, relaxing, and fun.

We look forward to meeting and hopefully partnering with local residents to help them grow their businesses.

Pittsboro Animal Hospital

I would like to introduce Pittsboro Animal Hospital (PAH) to our fellow Chathamites! I purchased PAH in 2006 (how has it been that long?) from Dr. Craig Corry. I was seeking a place to live where I could practice veterinary medicine and really be part of a community.  PBO turned out to be a perfect fit! Over the almost decade and a half I have been running PAH we have had the opportunity to work with great organizations such as CARE and Farm Friends Rescue, build lasting relationships with the eclectic population of Chatham County and help thousands of furry family members stay healthy.

PAH has seen many changes too since 2006 as we never stop improving!  This little building has changed, grown and been in a constant state of remodel since the first day I bought it. Just in 2020 we have added a dedicated dental suite, remodeled the grooming area and are prepping to convert the boarding area to a Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. Over the years we have added: full in-house laboratory, Digital Radiography, Digital Dental Radiography, Sound Ultrasound, Tonopen eye pressure, Therapeutic Laser, expanded exam rooms including a dedicated Comfort Room with attached Reflection Garden and spacious lobby.  We are a modern facility, yet offer a friendly family environment.

I am not alone here either!  We have two fabulous associate veterinarians, Dr .Cindi Baucom (home grown Pittsboro native) and Dr. Erin McKeon.  I love “alternative” medicine such as acupuncture, TCVM and am in the process of becoming CCRP (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner) through the University of Tennessee, Dr. Baucom loves internal medicine and Dr. McKeon loves surgery and dental procedures so we are a great well rounded team! And, if I may boast a little more, we have THE BEST groomer with Martha (she’s booked out 2-3 months in advance!) and support staff in Chatham County.

For more information about PAH visit our website Pittsboroanimalhospital.com

But a general run-down of our services:

   – Well visits (new puppy/ kitten, Annual Wellness Exams)
   – General Medicine (including dermatology, cardiology, ophthalmology, endocrinology, organ disease)
   – General Surgery (spay/ neuter, mass removal, certain eye/ear surgery, cystotomy)
   – Advanced diagnostics (blood testing, digital radiography, ultrasonography, tonopen)
   – Dental cleaning and extractions
   – Acupuncture, TCVM
   – Coming 2021 Wellness & Rehabilitation Center for pets recovering from injury or surgery of knees, hips, elbows, disc disease, etc.  Exercise and therapy (including acupuncture, therapeutic laser, Theraplate, land treadmill) for pets that are having mobility issues due to arthritis, age and/ or obesity.

Thanks for reading and look forward to meeting your fur kids 🙂

Pittsboro Feed & Pittsboro Pet Supply

Pittsboro Feed & Pittsboro Pet Supply are your locally owned feed & pet supply stores! In 2005, David & Christine Miller sold their feed store in Michigan and left the harsh winters for warmer weather in North Carolina. After 13 years in the Michigan feed business, they purchased Pittsboro Feed and settled their family in Chatham County.

While growing their business & raising kids, David and Christine set out to help customers  with all of their livestock questions and lawn/garden needs. In the early days of their business, they also carried pet supplies! As their business evolved, it was decided that Chatham County needed a pet supply store, so they built one across the street to help meet the needs of the pet parents in Chatham County!

When you walk into Pittsboro Feed, you’ll find that old fashion feel of a general store. Filled with North Carolina made treats and gifts, Maple View Dairy products, and Heritage Pork Meats, surely you can find a little something for that person that has everything! While you’re there, soak up the smell of fresh hay and molasses, check out the baby chicks, grab a few packs of bulk garden seeds, and share the local Chatham County gossip at the counter over a glass bottled coke. If you’re strapped for time, shop online at www.pittsborofeed.com or call 919-542-2454 and ask about our delivery service. You may already see our trucks & drivers delivering to over 200 farms & families all across the county!

We opened Pittsboro Pet Supply in 2015 after outgrowing our space at Pittsboro Feed. As pets became close members of the family, the options for pet food and supplies grew exponentially. We now carry a wide selection of food and pet supplies for dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles, rodents, and fish! Our helpful and friendly staff will help you find the most nutritious food, fit your pet with the perfect harness and sweater, or gather any supplies you might need for your dog’s late night run in with a skunk. Shop online at www.pittsboropetsupply.com for curbside pickup or delivery! We can’t wait to meet you and your pets!

Janet Resnik Pottery

132 Collins Mountain Road
Chapel Hill, NC 27516
919-929-3324
www.janetresnikpottery.com

Janet Resnik Pottery produces and sells functional stoneware pottery designed and priced for everyday use. Janet’s work reflects the Chatham County Farm where her combined studio and gallery is located. Surrounded by trees and flowers, donkeys, horses, cats, dogs and guineas, it is no wonder that her plates, mugs, bowls, pitchers and platters feature impressionistic landscape, animal, iris and Christmas designs.

The pottery is either “thrown” on a potter’s wheel or rolled and formed using a slab roller. Janet does all the wheel throwing; her assistant, i.e., her husband Mike, uses the slab roller. Janet also does all the decorating (glazing).

After the pottery is formed it is allowed to dry before being fired the first time in a low temperature electric kiln. The resulting bisque ware is glazed and then fired a second time to a much higher temperature in order to bond molecularly the glazing material to the clay. Janet does most of the glaze firing in an electric kiln, but uses a gas kiln for certain glazes.

People from all walks of life buy and love Janet’s pottery. And they are grateful for her reasonable prices: a spoon rest costs $5, a dinner plate $24, and a bird bath or large bowl $65. The pottery is lead free, dishwasher safe and can be used for baking if started in a cold oven. You may view the pottery and see videos by visiting her Website www.janetresnikpottery.com; but you cannot buy it online.

The Pottery is open every Wednesday and Sunday from 3-6 PM except for January and July. During these times (as well as during “kiln openings” and the Chatham County Studio Tour) the marked prices are discounted (20% for cash, 15% for checks). The Pottery does not take debit or credit cards and does not ship orders. You may also purchase by appointment at other times, including January and July, but only at the full prices. Visitors are required to wear masks and practice social distancing.
