Where’s my mail? The Pittsboro post office’s questionable practices

By Thurman Maness

Pittsboro, NC – Recently I have reported here all the problems I have been having with the US mail coming out of the Pittsboro post office. It’s always a story as to why I’m not receiving mail in a timely fashion. Carrier resigns, carrier is new. “Are you sure you had the flag up?” That question is a favorite stopgap for the post office.

A few weeks ago I signed up for the US POSTAL INFORMED DELIVERY; a service provided by the post office. They send you a photographic image via email of any and all mail pieces being delivered to your postal box that day, including packages.

This past week I received such an email showing the mail I expected in my mailbox that day. It never happened. None of that mail was received. None of the mail pictured in the email sent by the post office that day has ever arrived. I had important mail to go out on Monday. (Yes, I had the flag up) No mail pick up Monday through Wednesday. So I took my mail and mailed it in Siler City. I left a note in my mailbox for the carrier, with the flag up. The note explaining that I hadn’t received mail.

I contacted a neighbor a mile away and asked about her mail delivery. She is two stops after my mail box. She reported no interruption in mail delivery. Her mailbox is on a road that connects to 64. I live on 64. A carrier could shave about three miles off their route by turning off Highway 64 , delivering her mail without passing my mailbox,

Today sometime around four o’clock l noticed the flag was not up on my mailbox. The note I had left was gone. No reply, no mail, no promised mail pictured by “INFORMED DELIVERY.”

Just what the average postal recipient person expected to do? You get zero answers from the post office. Their most intelligent question is “Did you have the flag up?” Yes, I had the flag up. And so is my dander. A great big hulk of a public service like the post office against 90 year old me? They must be awfully proud to be able to shit on me and no one does anything about it.

I want my “informed delivery” mail. They created that magical service. Now prove a gram of professionalism and Deliver my mail like it is supposed to be delivered.
