Pittsboro, NC – A couple of weeks ago, the 3 Guys from Pittsboro Having Lunch visited Hoops Pizzeria to sample its assortment of food choices that has made it a favorite among residents. Greg Stafford, Eric Andrews and I delved into the restaurant’s menu, the family behind the business, and the community’s response.
The Rise of Hoops Pizza
Hoops Pizza opened its doors just over a year ago, quickly establishing itself as a destination for pizza lovers in Pittsboro. With a focus on quality ingredients and innovative recipes, the restaurant has garnered accolades, including recognition as the “Best New Restaurant” and “Best Pizza” in the Chatham Magazine’s annual reader’s poll.
Community Engagement
From the outset, Hoops Pizza has emphasized its connection to the local community. The restaurant’s owners work closely with local suppliers to source fresh ingredients and create a menu that resonates with the tastes of Pittsboro residents. This commitment to community is evident not only in their ingredient sourcing but also in their involvement in local events and initiatives.
A Menu to Please Every Palate
Hoops Pizza’s menu features a variety of options that cater to diverse tastes. During our visit, Greg and I explored some of the restaurant’s offerings before making our selections.
Signature Pizzas
Among the most popular items is the Triple Double, a pepperoni lover’s dream featuring three different kinds of pepperoni. For those seeking a classic taste, the Margherita Pizza is a favorite, showcasing fresh mozzarella, basil, and a rich tomato sauce. The Huddle, a take on the traditional supreme pizza, and the Full-Court Press, a meat lovers’ delight, round out the top choices.

Additionally, the restaurant introduces a Pizza of the Month, allowing chefs to experiment with new flavors and ingredients. For September, the featured creation is a Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza, topped with a ranch base, mozzarella, cheddar, chicken, bacon, and banana peppers—a perfect blend of savory and tangy.
Unique Offerings
In addition to pizzas, Hoops Pizza offers a variety of appetizers, including Fried Ravioli and Corn Fritters. The fried ravioli, a customer favorite, is prepared with care and served piping hot, making it an ideal starter for any meal. Both items passed our taste test. The restaurant also features a selection of beverages, including local sodas like Cheerwine..
The Family Behind the Flavor
At the heart of Hoops Pizza is a family-driven ethos. The restaurant is co-owned by a family trio: Jonathan Beeson, his father, and his mother, who also play crucial roles in its daily operations. This familial involvement is not only a business strategy but also a reflection of their shared passion for food and community.
The Grand Opening and Beyond
The grand opening of Hoops Pizza about a year ago, drew in a crowd of folks eager to taste the new offerings. Since then, the restaurant has maintained a steady stream of patrons, particularly on weekends. The owners credit their success to the support of the community, which has embraced their vision and continues to provide valuable feedback.
Dining Experience
The ambiance at Hoops Pizza is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for families, friends, and anyone looking to enjoy a meal in a relaxed setting. The restaurant features an open patio area, allowing diners to enjoy their meals outdoors if they choose to do.
Customer Feedback
Customer satisfaction is a top priority at Hoops Pizza, and the owners are always eager to hear feedback. Many patrons have expressed their appreciation for the quality of the food and the friendly service, often returning for repeat visits.
