Forged check linked to Chatham County theft

Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Georgia man in connection with a forged check that investigators say was cashed outside North Carolina and tied to funds stolen from a Chatham County resident.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office received a report on January 10, 2026, of a forged check connected to a Chatham County resident. Investigators reviewed a $50,000 check-cashing transaction at a PNC Bank branch in LaGrange, Georgia, where bank surveillance footage showed a white male with a beard presenting the check to a teller, who then cashed it.

Through bank records and a comparison with a Department of Criminal Information photograph, investigators identified the individual as Bryan Roger Chandler, 28, of Temple, Ga.

Chandler has been charged with felony uttering forged endorsement, felony forgery of instrument, and felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

Chandler has not yet been served with the charges, and a court date has not been set.
