Search for missing teen swimmer at Jordan Lake to resume on Monday morning

Pittsboro, NC – The search for a teenage swimmer who went missing Saturday evening at Jordan Lake was suspended Sunday afternoon after severe weather moved through the area.

On Saturday, July 4 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a teen encountered trouble in the water while swimming from a family boat. An extensive search began shortly afterward and continued into late Saturday night.

Search operations continued today until severe weather, including thunderstorms and heavy rain, moved into the area, forcing crews to suspend operations. Search efforts were called off for the day at approximately 4 p.m.

The search will resume Monday morning.

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sheriff Mike Roberson. “We remain committed to this search and are grateful for the dedicated efforts of all the agencies and personnel assisting us.”

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the agencies and personnel who have assisted with this effort, including North Chatham Fire Department, Alamance County Rescue, FirstHealth EMS, Chatham County Emergency Management, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and North Carolina State Parks.
