Northwood basketball’s “Pink Game” to honor Karen Heilman

Pittsboro, NC – Northwood High School Basketball is hosting its annual “Pink Game” to support cancer research awareness on February 8, 2022. This year’s event is “Play 4 Karen” in honor of former Chatham County teacher and coach Karen Sbrollini Heilman whose brave journey with cancer ended on September 9, 2021.

Karen was a dedicated teacher and coach who served Chatham County students for over 20 years. Her love of sports, in particular basketball, was evident through her coaching at Perry Harrison Elementary School. She coached many student-athletes who went on to have successful careers at Northwood on and off the field.

Northwood will honor Karen and other cancer survivors at halftime of the boys’ basketball game. Cancer survivors wishing to participate should email Northwood’s Athletic Director Cameron Vernon.

Everyone is encouraged to wear pink in support of cancer awareness. Donations will be accepted and will be given to the Karen Sbrollini Heilman Scholarship which benefits high school seniors from Northwood and Chatham Central. Checks can be written to the Rotary Club of Pittsboro (Karen Sbrollini Heilman Scholarship)
