Pittsboro, NC – Early voting for the 2024 second Republican primary begins Thursday, April 25, and ends Saturday, May 11. The State and Chatham County Board of Elections offers the following reminders for eligible second primary voters.
Second primaries are being held statewide for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor and state auditor. The winners of the second primaries will be the Republican nominees on the November 5 general election ballot.
All registered Republicans in North Carolina are eligible to vote in the statewide second primaries for these positions. Unaffiliated voters who either didn’t vote or voted the Republican ballot in the March 5 primary are also eligible. Registration of new voters is not permitted between the first and second primaries, which means same-day registration is not available. However, individuals who became eligible to vote since March 5 may register and vote on the day of the second primary- May 14.
Eligible, registered voters may cast a ballot at the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center- 1192 US-64 Business, Pittsboro, NC 27312. The early voting site is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through May 10 and open Saturday, May 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Details about the early voting hours and a sample ballot are available online HERE
Voters must provide a photo ID. Voters may show their driver’s license, but many other forms of photo ID will be accepted. Any registered voter who needs a photo ID can get one for free from the Chatham County Board of Elections office during the early voting period, which ends May 11. Any North Carolina resident who is at least 17 can also get a free non-driver ID from their local DMV office. Voters who do not have a photo ID can make sure their vote counts by either 1) filling out a form explaining why they are unable to show ID, or 2) showing their ID at the Chatham County Board of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. May 24. Voters who vote by absentee ballot can return it by mail or hand it to an election official at the Chatham County early voting site. They can also drop it off in person at the Chatham County Board of Elections office. Absentee ballots must be received by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, May 14.
