Don’t get scammed: Postal service alert!

Pittsboro, NC – Scam alert!

Yesterday I had to send something by express mail from the Pittsboro post office. After I left the post office and even before I got four miles to home I received a text saying my express mail item was being held up due to zip code not verified. It had a link to click to make a correction. Well I had a receipt with the same addresses and zip codes so I knew it wasn’t wrong.

Instead of clicking on the link I just went back to the post office with my receipt. The nice man behind the counter looked at the text and said the post office would never text or call but would rather send a notice by mail carrier. He said there are many scams happening with postal service and he recognized the text I got as one they see often.

What blows my mind is why they don’t do something to make sending mail overnight, etc. safe for us! Lots of scams! How crazy is that? I tracked my overnight mail from the internet and it showed it will be delivered Monday. That added up to two days, and not overnight. I thought paying $32 was bad enough but a freaking scammer contacted me when I used the scan feature on the receipt to check if it really did have the correct address.

Anyway; be careful if you need to mail something through the post office. I can’t say what else triggers a scammer but I sure will use UPS or Fed Ex if I have time sensitive documents to send overnight in the future.
