Pittsboro, NC – Did you know? Chatham County was named for William Pitt the Elder, Earl of Chatham. The Elder’s painting hangs in the Historic Courthouse in the courtroom. Pittsboro is probably named after William Pitt, the Elder’s, second son, also named William Pitt.
On First Sunday, Dec. 5, William Pitt the Elder will be visiting the Historic Museum, and will graciously be presenting a program on his life and history. The short presentations will begin in the Historical Courtroom at 1, 2, and 3 pm. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
While visiting, be sure to stop in the museum, see an exhibit on Lewis Freeman, as well as several additional bulletin boards that depict Chatham County history. Peruse our Museum Shop for gifts for the historically minded person on your holiday shopping list.
