Raleigh, NC – The NC State men’s basketball team fell to Miami, 64-59, Saturday afternoon inside PNC Arena.
A Devon Daniels lay-up with 6:18 to go gave the Pack a 51-45 lead, but NC State only hit one field goal over the next five minutes allowing the Hurricanes to go on a 13-3 run to take a 58-54 lead with one minute to go.
A Thomas Allen three-pointer brought the Pack back within one, 58-57, but NC State could not corral a rebound on Miami’s next possession as Earl Timberlake tipped in a miss to give Miami a 60-57 lead with 23 seconds remaining.
The Pack came up empty on its next possession and Miami went a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line down the stretch to prevent any chance of a comeback for NC State.
D.J. Funderburk posted his second career double-double with 12 points and a career-high tying 11 rebounds. Allen led the Pack with a season-best 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range.
Daniels also made it into double figures with 11 points.
The Pack tied its season-low with 37.9 percent shooting and lost the turnover battle for the second consecutive game. NC State turned it over 16 times while Miami only had 11 turnovers.
NC State returns to action Wednesday evening when it plays at defending ACC Champion Florida State. Tipoff against the Seminoles is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
