Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Board of Education on June 7, 2021, approved Matthew Wilkins as the principal of J.S. Waters School, in Goldston, N.C., effective July 1, 2021.
Wilkins has been the assistant principal at Chatham Central High School since Feb. 2019. Before that, he taught health and physical education at Perry W. Harrison Elementary School for several years. As well, Wilkins taught middle school science in another school system.
“My educational philosophy is that all students can learn and be successful. My goal will be to foster student success through collaboration, hard work and determination,” Wilkins said.
Wilkins grew up in the Goldston area and has a solid sense of the place. He said he is eager to get started at J.S. Waters.
“It is an honor to receive the opportunity to be the principal of J.S. Waters School. They’re getting a leader who is passionate about them, passionate about the school community, and a leader who is ready to serve them to the best of my abilities,” Wilkins said. “Servant leadership — I’m there to serve them. I’m also a transformational leader, meaning let’s keep what’s working and figure out what we might do differently.”
