Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Board of Education on Sept. 13, 2021, approved Carla Murray as the Executive Director for Elementary and Middle Grades Instruction. In her new role, Murray will lead the district’s curriculum and instruction efforts in elementary and middle grades to support the academic achievement of all students across the district.
Murray has 23 years of service as an educator, 17 of which have been with Chatham County Schools. She has been the principal of North Chatham Elementary since 2015. Her school-based experiences include principal, assistant principal, curriculum coach and elementary classroom teacher positions.
Murray was named the 2021 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year for Chatham County.
As a longtime Chatham resident, Murray attended Siler City Elementary, Chatham Middle School and graduated from Jordan-Matthews High School. She has established relationships with students, staff, families and community members across the district that will aid her work in the new role.
