New Hill, NC — The tone alert radio system around Harris Nuclear Plant will be tested at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
The tone alert radios are distributed to residents within a five-mile radius of Harris Nuclear Plant. Duke Energy will coordinate this test with the National Weather Service. In the event of severe weather, the test will be postponed until Sunday, Oct. 24.
This test is conducted in cooperation with emergency management offices of the State of North Carolina and Chatham, Harnett, Lee and Wake counties.
In preparation, residents are asked to replace the batteries in the radios with the batteries that were mailed earlier this month by Duke Energy along with notification of the scheduled test.
Questions about the tests may be directed to county or state emergency management agencies or to Duke Energy at 984-229-6261.
