Loose ends, lost thoughts, and new beginnings

Pittsboro, NC – I do hope all out there in Chatlist land will have a wonderful Christmas holiday and a joyous year. We deserve it. It has been a somewhat bad year with the virus and all.

I don’t believe there is a person out there that hasn’t been adversely affected by it in some way. Not only trying to avoid the virus is exhausting but debilitating; just being overly cautious is time-consuming.

I normally spend a lot of time at home, so it doesn’t take a lot of effort to be cautious. But now in the past week with increased cases being reported, I am super cautious when I have to go out. I now wear a mask and a clear shield for protection.

With the onset of cool weather in September, I tried my hand at indoor gardening under lights. I can assure you that it can provide you with hours of pleasure. I use ordinary LED shop lights, suspended about 23 inches over the pots. Excessive drying seems to be the only drawback. I spend hours just looking and fiddling with it. Very interesting is that I used soil from my property and seems much of that contains various fern spores that have now started to form little ferns. What a pleasure to witness all that.

I have had some success with germinating Brugmansia seeds. Tall Angel Trumpet.  The red and yellow forms of Brugmansia sanguine are doing well. From seed, they need lots of care. So far, I’ve had no insect problems. I’ve got seeds sprouting everywhere. Trying some new seeds.

Happy holidays!
