Please make a motion to unmask Chatham County student-athletes

By Gene Galin

Pittsboro, NC – This is an open letter to the Chatham County Board of Education to unmask our student-athletes during competition. The Chatham County School board has a meeting on January 10 where they can make a motion to get this done.

Another month of high school and missile school sports has gone by and the situation pretty much remains the same.
The proof seen in pictures (https://www.facebook.com/chathamjournal/photos/) is that during competition masks inevitably land up sliding down below the nose. At this point the masks cease to serve any purpose.

Please note that Chatham County school wrestlers do not have to wear masks while they are competing. They are probably in closer proximity to their opponents for more extended periods of time than any basketball players are.

I respectfully ask that a Chatham County School Board member make a motion to allow student athletes to not have to wear masks during competition. I hope that someone will second the motion and that school board members vote in favor of unmasking our student-athletes.

Thanks so much for your consideration.
