Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Board of Education approved the addition of Chris Kenan to the staff at Northwood High School. He has replaced Cullen Homolka as the head coach of the varsity football team.
“I’m excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity. I’m looking forward to jumping right in and creating a culture centered around elite work ethic. Setting the goal is not my only focus. It is deciding how we will go about achieving it and sticking to that plan”
Kenan comes to Northwood after coaching in Durham Public Schools at the high school and middle school level. He served as an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator before moving on to Neal Middle School as the head coach. During his time, at Neal Middle School, his teams won 3 straight district championships. Kenan, who graduated from North Carolina Central in 2010, was an offensive lineman and intern for the North Carolina Central football team.
“When we started the interview process we had criteria in our next head coach that went beyond x’s and o’s. Coach Kenan checked off most, if not all, of those boxes.”, Northwood Director of Athletics Cameron Vernon said. “He is an effective communicator who motivates student-athletes. He has an extreme passion for students and the game of football. What was most impressive was his involvement in the community he lives and works in. We are ecstatic to have him on board as a Physical Education and Health Education Teacher and Head Football Coach.”
