Pittsboro, NC – Jessica Winger, parent of four current Chatham County public school students, has announced her candidacy for the Chatham County Board of Education, District 3 position, with the election to be held in November 2022. She believes that providing the best possible public education to every student comes from collaboration between families and schools. As a school board member, she will use her experience and perspective as a parent of current students to continue to serve as a voice for Chatham County families.
Amidst the upheaval in public education during the last two years, Mrs. Winger became an active advocate at Chatham Board of Education meetings by consistently providing her perspective as a parent who had, within her own household, experienced the full ramifications of pandemic-related policies. She has attended and spoken during the public comment period at nearly every monthly Chatham County Board of Education meeting over the last 16 months. Over that time, she has brought greater community awareness to the decisions made by the school board as well as the details of board procedures and the processes by which the board operates. She spreads understanding at first through informal conversations, and later by creating and managing the “Parents of Chatham County Schools NC” Facebook page.
After growing up near Seattle, Washington, as well as living in Texas, California, and overseas, Jessica Winger and her husband, Ryan, are proud to have chosen Chatham County, North Carolina as the right place for their family to put down roots. In the Fall of 2022, their children will be attending Seaforth High School, Pollard Middle School, and North Chatham Elementary.
Mrs. Winger earned an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from BYU-Idaho, where she initially studied Elementary Education. She currently serves as the Parent Representative on North Chatham Elementary School’s Leadership Team (SLT), is an active member of the North Chatham Elementary School PTA, and recently became a substitute teacher for Chatham County Schools. She also volunteers regularly with the children’s activity group at her church and teaches Yoga part time.
All Chatham County voters are eligible to cast a vote for a District 3 Board of Education candidate, regardless of the district in which the voter resides. Jessica Winger looks forward to engaging more deeply with and on behalf of Chatham County families. She aims to earn your vote in November 2022.
