Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Board of Education on March 13, 2023, approved Dr. Miah R.
Hart-Olivis as principal at Chatham Grove Elementary School.
Hart-Olivis started her career as a second-grade teacher in 2005 with Pearsontown Year-Round
Elementary School in Durham. In addition to working at Durham Public Schools, she has served as an
elementary school educator in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Norfolks, Va., Public Schools.
Most recently, she has been assistant principal and then principal at Hillandale Elementary School in
Durham.
Among her professional achievements, Hart-Olivis was selected for a Durham Public Schools Foundation
Fellowship in 2021-22. She also received the Dr. James Surratt Outstanding Doctoral Student Award in 2022.
During her tenure at Hillandale Elementary, it was named a Trauma-Informed Leadership Team
School of Distinction.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and early childhood education and her Master’s in
Teaching, Elementary Education from Hampton University in Virginia. Hart-Olivis received her K-12
Principal Licensure in Educational Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill. She earned her Doctor of
Educational Leadership in 2020 from High Point University.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as Chatham Grove Elementary School’s principal and be a
part of Chatham County Schools,” Hart-Olivis said. “I’ve heard great things about the students and staff,
and I look forward to meeting them and helping our students continue to make great strides.”
Chatham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson said Hart-Olivis extensive experience
with elementary education will be a strong asset for both Chatham Grove and Chatham County Schools.
“Dr. Hart-Olivis is passionate about elementary education,” Jackson said. “That passion will bring great
results for our students and staff at Chatham Grove. I am so pleased she has decided to join our team at
Chatham County Schools and look forward to seeing the impact she will have.”
