Durham, NC – Duke football officially begins spring football practice on Friday.
The Blue Devils will use the allotted 15 practice sessions allowed by the NCAA during the spring in preparation for the 2023 season. One of those practice sessions will be devoted to the team’s Blue & White Game, which is set for Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. Additional information on the Blue & White Game will be released at a later date.
Elko concluded his first year in Durham leading Duke to a 9-4 record, including a 30-13 victory over UCF in the Military Bowl. The 2022 ACC Coach of the Year became the program’s first head coach to lead the Blue Devils to nine wins and a bowl victory in his first season at the helm. He also coached the Blue Devils to a 5-3 ledger in ACC play, marking the program’s most league wins since 2014. In addition, the Blue Devils earned a home record of 5-1 for their most home victories since 2014.
Duke returns 18 starters from its 2022 squad, including first team All-ACC recipient in offensive tackle Graham Barton, third team All-ACC honoree in defensive tackle DeWayne Carter and third team All-ACC selection as both a wide receiver and specialist in Jalon Calhoun. Honorable mention All-ACC choice Riley Leonard also returns for his junior season after finishing 2022 as one of just two Power 5 quarterbacks nationally with 20-plus passing and 13-plus rushing touchdowns on the year. The Military Bowl MVP set school single-season records for touchdowns responsible for with 33 and pass completion-to-interception radio with a mark of 41.67.
The Blue Devils open the 2023 season hosting Clemson at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium on Monday, September 4. Duke will also have additional home games against Lafayette (Saturday, Sept. 9), Northwestern (Saturday, Sept. 16), Notre Dame (Saturday, Sept. 30), N.C. State (Saturday, Oct. 14), Wake Forest (Thursday, Nov. 2) and Pittsburgh (Saturday, Nov. 25).
