Matthews, NC – In a formidable display of skill and teamwork, the Christ the King School girls soccer team emerged victorious in the North Carolina 1A State Girls Soccer Championship, defeating Woods Charter with a final score of 5-0. The championship game, held at the Mecklenburg County SportsPlex in Matthews, was a highly anticipated match, as it marked the third consecutive year that these two teams faced off in the state finals.
The Huntersville private school, Christ the King, wasted no time in establishing their dominance, with freshman midfielder Addie Pierce scoring a hat trick during the match’s opening minutes. Woods Charter, a public charter school in Chatham County, had been on an impressive winning streak, with their last loss dating back to April 16. Despite their strong record and previous success in the championship games, they were unable to overcome the Crusaders’ relentless offense and solid defense. Woods Charter finished the season 22-5-1 and 1A Runner Up for the third straight year.
Christ the King’s victory marks their third consecutive 1A state title, highlighting their dominance in the state’s soccer scene. The Crusaders’ roster boasts 10 freshmen, including the standout player Pierce, demonstrating the team’s depth and potential for future success.
