Matthews, NC – In a display of skill, determination, and teamwork, the Seaforth High School Lady Hawks emerged victorious in the North Carolina 2A State Girls Soccer Championship. The Hawks faced off against Pine Lake Prep in a thrilling match that ended in a nail-biting penalty shootout. They won the game 6 – 5.
The championship game, held at the Mecklenburg County SportsPlex in Matthews, saw both teams fiercely battling for the title. The Hawks, who had a stellar season with a record of 25-1-1, were determined to make their mark in the state’s soccer history. Pine Lake Prep, with a record of 20-2-1, was equally determined to claim the championship.
The game was a defensive masterclass, with both teams refusing to give an inch. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, pushing the game into a penalty shootout. The Hawks showed nerves of steel, converting six of their seven penalty kicks. Pine Lake Prep, however, managed to convert only five of their seven attempts, leading to Seaforth’s victory.
The Hawks’ goalkeeper, Kathie Leonard, was named the most valuable player of the state championship for her outstanding performance. Leonard’s crucial saves during the penalty shootout were instrumental in securing the win for the Hawks.
