Effective July 1, 2024, there will be a 15% water rate increase for Chatham County Water Utilities customers. Although this is effective July 1st, customers will not see the increase until their bill arrives in September. For example, the average monthly water bill of $43.00 would increase by $6.45 to $49.45.

It is important to note that the water usage rates have not increased since 2007. This increase is needed to meet rising operational costs and necessary capital improvements.

Conserving water is an important way to protect the environment, while also saving energy and money. Using less water indoors and outside puts less demand on the drinking water delivery system and the water treatment system. Less usage also helps lower water bills and conserve the water supply needed in times of drought. More information about water conservation can be found at chathamcountync.gov/conserve-water.
