Bear Creek man arrested in shooting incident at Murphy’s Gas Station

Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Bear Creek man in connection with a shooting that left three people injured.

On Friday, December 6, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m., deputies responded to a report of three gunshot victims at Murphy’s gas station, at 107 New Chatham Road in Siler City. The victims were transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The case was initially believed to be related to a road rage incident, but further investigation revealed the shooting occurred at a residence located at 17025 Highway 902 in Bear Creek. On December 7, 2024, investigators executed a search warrant at the residence and located evidence tied to the shooting.

Michael Sharpe

Michael Darren Sharpe, 46, has been charged with the following:

  • One count of misdemeanor injury to personal property
  • Seven counts of felony discharging a weapon into a motor vehicle
  • Three counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury
  • One count of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Four counts of misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun
  • One count of felony assault inflicting serious injury

Sharpe is being held on a $1 million secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for January 6, 2025, in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro.
