Chatham County Aging Services to hold 9th annual “Salute to Veterans” on November 6

Pittsboro, NC – Honoring those who have served in our nation’s armed forces, Chatham County Aging Services will hold its 9th annual “Salute to Veterans” event on Thursday, November 6 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Pittsboro Center for Active Living.

While veterans from all branches of the U.S. military will be recognized, this year’s theme, “Service To Our Nation,” will specifically commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. Colors will be presented by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard with a welcome from Aging Services Deputy Director, Zach Deaton. In addition, virtual remarks will be given by Congresswoman Valerie Foushee. Dinner will be provided by Chatham County Veteran Services through a grant from the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

The featured speaker will be Charles Gardner, a 20-year Marine Corps veteran who served during the Beirut, Lebanon bombing in October 1983 and the Persian Gulf War. He then served 26 years with Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, beginning as a Deputy Sheriff and retiring as Chief Deputy.

“We are deeply honored to host our 9th annual Salute to Veterans event to express our gratitude to the Chatham County veterans and their family members for their sacrifice and service to our nation,” said Liz Lahti, Pittsboro Center for Active Living manager. “It is our small way to recognize the men and women of all ages who served in the military and to ensure their service is not forgotten.”

Interested veterans and community members should RSVP by Friday, October 30 to Lahti at 919-545-8417 or by email at liz.lahti@chathamcountync.gov. Alternatively, RSVPs may be made to Kathryn Walters, Siler City Center for Active Living manager, at 919-545-8120 or kathryn.walters@chathamcountync.gov.
