Chatham County man charged with sexual exploitation of a minor 

Pittsboro, NC – A Chatham County man faces felony charges after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence and found evidence that sexually explicit photos of a minor had been taken there and shared online.

On October 28, 2025, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office with information about sexually explicit photos taken of a juvenile at a home on Manns Chapel Road and shared with an unknown person via KIK, the online private messaging app.

On October 30, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, searched the residence at 4563 Manns Chapel Rd., finding evidence of the crimes.

The suspect, 38-year-old Matthew Ray Brasington of 4563 Manns Chapel Rd., Chapel Hill, was arrested in connection with the KIK account that shared the images and was charged with three felony counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, three felony counts of indecent liberties with a child, and three felony counts of crime against nature.

No bond was issued and Brasington is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on November 24, 2025.

The child has been identified and is in a safe environment.
