Durham, NC – Duke held its second 85-play scrimmage of preseason fall camp Saturday morning at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Graduate student quarterback Gunnar Holmberg went 7-of-12 for 168 yards while adding a touchdown and was successful on a two-point conversion. The Wake Forest, N.C., native also added 14 rushing yards on seven carries.
Freshman running back Trent Davis totaled 66 yards on six rushes, highlighted by a 48-yard sprint that resulted in a touchdown. Redshirt freshman quarterback Luca Diamont also made use of his legs, recording 86 yards on 10 carries. Diamont’s performance included a scrimmage-long 59-yard scamper down the sideline.
Senior wide out Jake Bobo amassed 49 yards on two receptions with a score to lead the receiving corps. Junior wide receivers Jalon Calhoun and Darrell Harding Jr. also added to Duke’s depth at the position as Calhoun broke loose for a 50-yard touchdown reception and Harding Jr. caught two passes for 50 yards.
Defensively, junior linebacker Shaka Heyward, redshirt sophomore defensive end Ahmad Craig, redshirt sophomore defensive tackle DeWayne Carter and sophomore linebacker Dorian Mausi each broke through the line and tallied a sack for a combined total of 24 yards lost.
Redshirt sophomore kicker Charlie Ham connected on two field goals, 45- and 49-yard kicks.
Duke continues its fall camp schedule in preparation for its season opener on Friday, Sept. 3 at Charlotte. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Jerry Richardson Stadium.
