Northwood girls & Chatham Charter boys advance to state basketball championship games

Pittsboro, NC – Two Chatham county high school basketball teams are headed to the NCHSAA basketball championship games next Saturday.

The #2 seed Northwood girls (30-1) are scheduled to play against the West region’s #19 seed Enka (30-0) in the 3A Women’s NCHSAA championship game. They handed #1 seed Terry Sanford (30-1) their first loss of the season, 51-50 at Southern Lee high school. The Enka Jets defeated #4 seed North Davidson, 51-49 on their way to Saturday’s championship game. The Jets started the playoffs 11-14 before piling up five straight upsets.

The #1 seed Chatham Charter boys (31-1) will play the West region’s #1 seed Hayesville (22-5) in the 1A Men’s NCHSAA championship game. The Knights defeated Wilson, 59-42 at J.H. Rose high school. Hayesville defeated #2 seed Winston-Salem Prep, 72-66.
