Pittsboro, NC – During their May 23 commissioners’ meeting the Pittsboro town board is scheduled to issue a proclamation in recognition of the 2022 Northwood High School Women’s Basketball NCHSAA 3A State Championship.
WHEREAS, Northwood High School of Pittsboro, North Carolina, has achieved prominence in high school athletic competition during the 2021-22 academic year; and
WHEREAS, the women’s basketball team of Northwood High School, known as the “Lady Chargers” was molded into an outstanding team under the tutelage of Head Coach Kerri Snipes and Assistant Coaches Kevin Forster, Tommy Snipes, Jazmine Atkins, Jazanae Billings, and Jerry Lux; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers basketball team were led by Team Captains Caroline Allen, Natalie Bell, Myla Marve, and Olivia Porter; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers basketball team compiled a regular season conference record of twelve (12) victories and zero (0) defeats en route to winning the 2021-22 3-A Central Carolina Conference Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers basketball team advanced to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) State 3-A Women’s Basketball Championship bracket with a record of twenty-four (24) victories and only one (1) defeat and a #2 seed ranking; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers basketball team continued their winning in the State 3-A playoffs en route to the finals of the NCHSAA State 3-A Women’s Basketball Championship on March 12, 2022; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers basketball team participated in said State Championship Finals and distinguished itself by winning the NCHSAA State 3-A Women’s Basketball Championship for 2021-22 culminating their season with an overall record of thirty (30) victories and only one (1) defeat; and
WHEREAS, Olivia Porter was recognized as the 2022 NCHSAA 3-A Kay Yow State Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Te’Keyah Bland was recognized as the 2022 NCHSAA 3-A Women’s Basketball Most Outstanding Player.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by I, Cindy Perry, Mayor of the Town of Pittsboro, on behalf of the Pittsboro Board of Commissioners and our citizens:
Section 1. That the Northwood High School Women’s Basketball Team for the 2021-22 academic year, including the team members Caroline Allen, Natalie Bell, Myla Marve, Olivia Porter, Gianna McManaman, Te’Keyah Bland, Sarah Barbour, Skylar Adams, Natalia Whitaker, Meredith Bean, Anna Bolejack, Michelle Cardozo-Ortiz, Sara Wildes, and team managers Jakias Fuller and Kenyada Nettles are hereby commended for its outstanding achievements on the court and congratulated for its historic accomplishment in capturing the State 3-A Women’s Basketball Championship of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for the 2021-22 season and the first State Championship for any sport for Northwood High School.
Section 2. That copies of this Proclamation shall be duly certified and forthwith transmitted to Northwood High School Head Coach Kerri Snipes, Northwood High School Athletic Director Cameron Vernon, Northwood High School Principal Dr. Brad Walston, and Chatham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson, on behalf of the Lady Chargers Basketball Team.
Section 3. That this Proclamation be spread upon the permanent records of the Town of Pittsboro.
