Last week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention recommended the use of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for use in children ages 6 months to 5 years, expanding the eligibility for vaccination to all individuals ages 6 months and older. The decision came after months of study and trials to ensure the vaccine’s effectiveness and safety in this newly-eligible age group.

“We continue to encourage all who are eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine, including children 6 months to 5 years old,” said Mike Zelek, Chatham County Public Health Director. “If you have questions about the vaccine, talk to your child’s doctor. And if you are looking for a place to get vaccinated, either for your child or yourself, we would be happy to serve you at our clinic in Siler City.”

The CCPHD has more information on the vaccine for children online in both English and Spanish.

If residents have any other questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, they are encouraged to reach out to their child’s doctor. To find all locations offering the COVID-19 vaccine for children, visit covid19.ncdhhs.gov/vaccines/kids.

The CCPHD clinic continues to offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for individuals ages 5-11 and the Moderna vaccines, both the primary series and booster shots, for adults.
