Pittsboro, NC – Northwood High School is pleased to announce Mitch Johnson as its new head football coach. Johnson was approved by the Chatham County School Board Tuesday evening. He will teach physical education in addition to his coaching duties. He replaces Chris Kenan as the head coach of the varsity football team.
Johnson comes to Northwood after coaching one year at South Iredell High School. He has previous head coaching experiences at Appleton-West High School in Appleton, Wisconsin, ( four years) and Lake Mead Christian Academy in Henderson, Nevada (one year). Johnson has roots in central North Carolina. Prior to becoming a head coach, Johnson was an assistant football coach at his alma mater Pinecrest High School. Johnson also graduated from Greensboro College in 2010, and was a member of their football program.
South Iredell finished 6th in the 2022 4A West Conference 57 Football Standings with a 1-5 conference record and an overall 4-7 record
