Swingin’ for success: Benefit dance for Pollard band program

Pittsboro, NC – On Thursday, March 14, The Margaret B. Pollard Jazz Band will be hosting a Swing Dance benefit to help financially support the 300 member band program.

The Margaret B. Pollard Swing Dance will take place at The Plant in Pittsboro at 192 Lorax Lane. Richard Badu will lead beginning swing dance lessons at 6 pm, the Pollard Jazz band will open the evening at 6:30 pm, and the Heart of Carolina Jazz Band will finish out the evening from 7:15 pm to 9 pm with an intermission for an additional dance lesson. The Pollard band invites the entire community to come out and join them for an evening of dancing and music making!

Suggested donation is $20 per person or $40 per family.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Neon green Pollard punch will also be available for purchase.

Can’t dance? Sure you can! Lessons start at 6 pm, so bring your dancing shoes! 1920’s period clothing optional but certainly not discouraged.

The Margaret B. Pollard band program serves 300 students from 6-8th grade. Ensembles offered include 6th, 7th, and 8th grade concert bands, in addition to a jazz band and basketball pep band. The program also provides a daily jazz lab class. Pollard band students present multiple concerts annually, including performances at the Pittsboro Tree Lighting Ceremony, NC Music Performance Adjudication, Carowinds Festival of Music, basketball games, and elementary school outreach performances. Pollard band students are regularly accepted to the All-County, All-District, All-Region, and All-State Honor Bands. The Margaret B. Pollard band program is under the direction of Rebecca Clemens.
