Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains found along the Haw River over the weekend.
A kayaker reported the discovery, and investigators from the Sheriff’s Office confirmed the presence of human bones on the riverbank. A thorough search of the area continued into Saturday evening and resumed on Sunday morning.
With the assistance of cadaver dogs from the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, additional human bones were
located in the area. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, along with Chatham County Emergency Management and the North Chatham Fire Department’s swift water rescue team, participated in the search. The Medical Examiner was also on the scene and will work to help identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
