Chatham Cares activates disaster relief efforts for western North Carolina following hurricane Helene

Pittsboro, NC – In response to the widespread devastation caused by hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, Chatham Cares, a disaster relief ministry out of Community Baptist Church in Siler City, is again stepping up to assist those in need. Partnering with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office and local businesses, Chatham Cares is collecting essential supplies for the affected communities.

This latest initiative calls on Chatham County residents and businesses to support the relief effort for residents of Western North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Donations of essential items are being collected at several drop-off locations in Chatham County through Friday, October 4th.

Items Requested for Donation Include:

Bottled water

Baby diapers and wipes

Flashlights

Insect repellent

Cleaning supplies (Clorox wipes, gloves, trash bags)

Personal hygiene items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, etc.)

Non-perishable food items

Work gloves

Batteries

5-gallon buckets

Donation Drop-Off Locations:

Chatham County Sheriff’s Office: (295 West St., Pittsboro): Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Piggly Wiggly of Siler City: Sunday-Friday, during store hours

Walmart Shopping Center Parking Lot: (Siler City): Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Chatham Cares would like to thank its partners for their support, including the Chatham County Sheriff’s
Office, Piggly Wiggly, Royal Oak Dental Group, Walmart of Siler City, and the people of Chatham County.

Chatham Cares was founded in 2017 by Josh Smith, Director of the ministry, in collaboration with Dr. Mark Agan, Pastor of Community Baptist Church, with the support and assistance of Sheriff Mike Roberson.

Originally launched as a one-time effort to aid Hurricane Irma victims in Florida, the program has continued to provide disaster relief when needed.
