Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham Chatlist letter today that mentions horrible Brightspeed service made me laugh. All issues mentioned are so typical of Brightspeed. It is comical that such a seemingly disastrous company could creep into our existence and ensconce itself and get by with so little service to the customer. And no Chatham county or North Carolina government agency is doing one thing about the rotten service. I have never heard one good thing about Brightspeed.
They took over my landline several years ago, I’m assuming they bought out Centurylink. Anyway, they owned everything that Centurylink had owned, including my 1973 telephone poles and wiring. Fifty year old equipment. Their equipment.
I never really used that Brightspeed landline, because I had a cell phone. Three years I paid them $33 a month for nothing. Just sorta thought of it as a stand-by; that I might need in emergency. Never did anyone from Brightspeed come near or set foot on my property in all those years. I did not have long distance service, but yet, once they tried to charge me about $80 for two long distance calls.
My $33 a month Brightspeed service charge was deducted from my bank account. So I had to have the bank do the account closing. It was done at my bank via speaker phone; the Brightspeed employee seemingly not really knowing what they were doing. That employee did say “We will have to pick up our equipment.”
I tried thru the North Carolina District Attorney to get my money refunded because of lack of/no service. That didn’t work. I then began an email exchange with Brightspeed demanding they pick up their equipment, as they had stated when account was closed.
More than fifty emails later, they hadn’t the foggiest idea about what was going on. One employee would tire of me and pass me along to another. Nobody knowing what I was talking about. At one point, one of them decided it was a modem that needed picking up, and was ready to send a prepaid packet for its return. I never got or used a modem from Brightspeed. When that didn’t work for them, again I was passed on to another “specialist;” that will continue just to see how long they will show their professional assets,
Seemingly Brightspeed is just a tiny little company owned by a gigantic foreign/worldwide corporation with offices on Madison ave in New York City.
Just wondering. Are there any happy, well satisfied Brightspeed customers out there?
If so, the world is begging to hear your story. It might just show a glimmer of hope in this dark, dark sad entangled situation. Seems North Carolina governmental powers that be are doing absolutely nothing to put pressure on Brightspeed to give decent service.
I now hear that “Brightspeed” is laying cables in Pittsboro and most recently bragged they will be supplying Fearrington with all sorts of wonderful wondrous magical services. Now don’t you just know that elite Fearrington ain’t gonna let no Tinkertoy outfit set up and disrupt their lives.
Oh golly gee whiz. I am sooooo hurt and jealous.
