Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Chapel Hill man following an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material.
On October 15, 2024, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office received a cyber tip from KIK through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tip led investigators to images of child sexual abuse material found on the user’s KIK account. On January 16, 2025, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), executed a search warrant at the residence. Several electronic devices were seized and examined, leading investigators to determine that the resident, Joseph Alexander Sigman, 25, was in possession of child sexual abuse material.
As a result, on February 12, 2025, Deputy Mathew Mitchell arrested Sigman on 10 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Sigman was issued a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on March 3, 2025.
