Pittsboro recognizes Police Week and Public Works Week

Pittsboro, NC – At the Town of Pittsboro Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, May 12, 2025, the Pittsboro Police Department and Public Works Department were recognized for their dedication and service. Mayor Kyle Shipp and the Board of Commissioners are proud to honor the service and dedication of two essential sectors of our community through the official observance of National Police Week (May 11th–17th, 2025), Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15th, 2025), and Public Works Week (May 18th–24th, 2025).

During National Police Week, Mayor Shipp, on behalf of the Board, formally acknowledges the invaluable role of law enforcement officers in Pittsboro and across the nation. “We publicly salute the service of our law enforcement officers who put themselves at risk each day to protect and serve our community,” said Mayor Shipp. “Their courage, commitment, and professionalism uphold the safety and well-being of our residents.”

Chief of Police for the Town of Pittsboro, Shorty Johnson, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. “Police Week is a meaningful time for all of us in law enforcement,” said Chief Johnson. “It reminds us not only of the sacrifices made by officers across the country, but also of the bond we share with the Pittsboro community. We are honored to serve and are thankful for the continued support we receive from our residents and leaders.”

Following Police Week, the Town of Pittsboro will join communities around the country in celebrating Public Works Week, recognizing the critical services provided by public works professionals. In his proclamation, Mayor Shipp urges all citizens to take part in activities and ceremonies that pay tribute to the engineers, managers, and frontline employees who keep our infrastructure running and help safeguard public health and safety.
