Chatham County Schools teacher arrested for sexual exploitation of minor

Siler City, NC – On Friday, February 13, 2026, agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) Computer Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Carrboro Police Department and the Siler City Police Department, executed a search warrant at 200 NC Highway 54 in Carrboro.

The investigation began following a CyberTip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). As a result of the investigation, Christopher James Rex, 40, of Carrboro, was arrested and charged with ten (10) counts of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.

Investigators determined that Rex was employed as a teacher at ONE Academy, a school located in Siler City. Following his arrest, Rex was transported to the Orange County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for February 16, 2026.

Statement from Chatham County Schools
Chatham County Schools has been informed that a current staff member at ONE Academy has been arrested as part of an investigation being led by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

In accordance with Board policy, the employee has been placed on mandatory leave without pay, effective immediately, pending the outcome of this matter.

Based on the information currently provided by the SBI, the charges do not involve any students from Chatham County Schools.

We are deeply concerned by this development. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.

Since this is an active investigation and personnel matter, we are limited in what information we can share at this time. We appreciate the community’s understanding as we allow the investigative process to move forward.
