Pittsboro, NC – In October 2025, the Pittsboro Police Department Investigations Unit received a community complaint regarding suspicious activity at Blue Jade Spa, located at 579 West Street in Pittsboro, North Carolina. The complainant alleged that an illegal, unlicensed massage business was operating at the location. Additional concerns were raised about individuals reportedly residing at the business and rarely leaving the premises.

Over the course of a five-month investigation, investigators developed probable cause indicating illegal sexual activity and potential human trafficking occurring at the business.
On April 10, 2026, the Pittsboro Police Department executed a search warrant at the location. No arrests were made at the time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The Pittsboro Police Department extends its appreciation to the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy and Hope for Justice, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to combating human trafficking, for their assistance in this investigation.
No additional information is being released at this time.
According to Hope for Justice, an international nonprofit combatting sex trafficking that has worked with the Pittsboro Police Department on the investigation, potential signs of human trafficking include:
- Houses or apartments with “too many people” who are all picked up or dropped off at the same time
- People “who seem scared, confused or have untreated injuries”
- One person speaking on behalf of many; the other people involved may avoid eye contact
- Little to no pay
- Lights on at a workplace at strange times
- Fear of police or any authority
