UNC & UVA advance to ACC lacrosse championship game

Charlotte, NC – North Carolina and Virginia scored semifinal wins on Friday, May 1, at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championship, held at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Tar Heels and Cavaliers will square off for the ACC Championship on Sunday, May 3, at noon ET on ACC Network.

The No. 4 seed Cavaliers ousted No. 1 seed Notre Dame, 15-10, in the semifinal opener, and No. 2 seed North Carolina followed with a 12-10 triumph over No. 3 seed Syracuse. In the regular-season meeting on April 18, UNC topped Virginia, 16-15, in an overtime thriller in Charlottesville, Virginia.
 
North Carolina is vying for its first ACC Tournament crown since 2017, while Virginia is aiming for its first since 2019.

No. 4 Virginia 15, No. 1 Notre Dame 10
Truitt Sunderland scored four goals, while ACC Freshman of the Year Brendan Millon recorded a hat trick and two assists as the Cavaliers (9-6) continued their late-season surge, notching their sixth win in the last eight games. The Cavaliers did not trail in the game.
 
UVA goalie Jake Marek made a dozen saves.
 
Josh Yago, Will Angrick, Dylan Faison and Will Maheras each found the back of the net twice for Notre Dame, which fell to 10-2, with its lone losses coming to Virginia.
 
No. 2 North Carolina 12, No. 3 Syracuse 10
North Carolina staged a fourth-quarter rally to advance to the championship game. After Finn Thomson gave the Orange (11-5) a 9-7 lead with a goal at the 13:55 mark of the final quarter, UNC (12-3) scored five of the game’s final six goals. Luke Bair’s unassisted goal at the 10:36 mark gave the Tar Heels the lead, which they did not relinquish.
 
Owen Duffy racked up a career-high six assists and added a goal for UNC, while Brevin Wilson recorded a hat trick. Josh Marcus totaled 11 saves in goal for the Tar Heels.
 
Thomson, Luke Rhoa and Michael Leo each posted hat tricks for Syracuse.
