Pittsboro, NC – Chatham County Public Libraries announces that blood pressure kits are now available for check out at each of its three branches, Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro, Wren Memorial Library in Siler City, and Goldston Public Library.
Chatham County Libraries partnered with the American Heart Association in support of community health literacy. Residents may check out blood pressure kits for six weeks so that adult patrons can establish the habit of checking and recording their blood pressure readings to share with their healthcare providers. Kits include the monitor and cuff, cards for recording results, and information in English and Spanish about obtaining a reliable reading and making lifestyle changes. There are no library fees or fines associated with blood pressure kits.
Left untreated and over time, high blood pressure or hypertension raises the risks for heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney disease, vision loss, sexual dysfunction, angina, and peripheral artery disease.
“Hypertension can be a threat to the health and well-being of Chatham residents. The library is glad to be able to circulate equipment designed to identify this serious health condition,” said Chatham County Libraries Director Linda Clarke.
Public Health Director Mike Zelek added that, “Checking your blood pressure regularly is important to preventing serious health issues. We are grateful to Chatham County Public Libraries for providing this service to the Chatham community.”
