Chapel Hill, NC – The N.C. High School Athletic Association released the state playoff brackets for the dual-team wrestling playoffs on Thursday afternoon and the first round matchups are set.

Seaforth’s wrestling team earned a #1 seed and they will face #16 seed Bartlett Yancey in the first round of competition. Should they win, they will face the winner of the #8 Heide Trask vs #9 Ayden-Grifton match. Both rounds will take place at Seaforth. The wrestling is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
Northwood’s wrestling team comes into the state tournament as a #13 seed. They will travel to compete against #4 Southwest Onslow. Should they win they will compete against the winner of the #5 Pasquotank vs #12 Manteo match.
The first and second rounds of the dual-team wrestling state playoffs will be held on Saturday. Winners will advance to the third round and regional round on January 31. The first two dates will be played as quads, allowing teams to advance through two rounds of the playoffs each day.
This year the wrestling brackets were delayed for several hours due to reporting and clerical errors. The NCHSAA said it had to wait for RankWrestling to release new rankings with corrections from schools.
Winners of the regional championships will advance to the state championships on Saturday, February 3, at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse. The 2A and 4A state championships will take place at 12 pm. The 1A and 3A state championships will take place at 3 pm.

The NCHSAA plans to announce the match-ups for the boys and girls individual wrestling playoffs later this month. This year will be the first time girls wrestling is a sanctioned sport with a state championship.
The girls wrestling regionals will take place February 2 and February 3. The boys regionals will be held February 9 and February 10. The state championships for boys and girls will take place at the Greensboto Coliseum on February 15-17.
