Pittsboro, NC – As part of International Compost Awareness Week, the Chatham community is invited to learn about issues related to composting and how to overcome them. This free program is open to the public.

Anayancy Estacio, Education Program Coordinator, with Chatham County Solid Waste & Recycling, will focus on helping participants address some of the most common challenges that come up with composting. Both backyard composting and vermicomposting will be covered and will include a mix of activities along with practical tips and solutions. Information about local composting opportunities, including resources from the North Carolina Composting Council, will be available.
Participants can enter a raffle to win a free backyard compost bin and kitchen collector.
International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW), May 3 through 9, 2026, is a global education and awareness campaign dedicated to bringing people together to learn about the benefits of composting to soil, food, and communities.
