CCSO investigating death at Jordan Lake

Pittsboro, NC – At approximately 7 p.m. on May 15, 2026, deputies with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Jordan Lake near the NC 751 bridge following a report of a body floating in the water. The body was located by a fisherman in the area.

The deceased has been identified as David Schultz, 24, of Chapel Hill. Investigators recovered personal belongings nearby, including materials indicating the death may have been self-inflicted. 

The body was transported to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy to determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
