Pittsboro, NC – NC State Extension announces that Kristin Peters is completing an Extension internship this summer with the Chatham County Center.
An Extension summer intern works with Extension personnel to deliver hands-on, educational programs. Job shadowing and mentoring help interns learn about the mission and work of North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
“Extension makes a positive difference in the community every day. We provide educational programs that connect communities with research-based information. Our internship program is another way we help prepare students for challenging and rewarding careers in food, agriculture, natural resources, and family and consumer sciences,” said Dr. Richard Bonanno, Associate Dean of the NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Director of NC State Extension.
Peters is a PhD student from NC State University majoring in Forest Health. Peters grew up in rural Michigan, which allowed her to gain an appreciation for nature and natural resources. She graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Michigan State University. Less than a week after graduating, she moved her entire life to Raleigh, NC, including her three cats, to pursue graduate school at North Carolina State University. She recently finished her Master of Science in Forestry and Environmental Resources from NC State that focused on identifying the forestry educational needs of family forest landowners working alongside N.C. Cooperative Extension. Peters is excited to spend this summer with Chatham County gaining valuable experiences through working with Extension. She will return to NC State this fall to work towards achieving her PhD focused on Forest Health.
