Pittsboro, NC – In celebration of Tommy Edwards’ vibrant musical spirit in this community, the MOSAIC Family Commons will be dedicated in his honor during the final weekend of MOSAIC Comes Alive! event series. A founding member of the Bluegrass Experience, a band he led for 50 years, Edwards passed away in May 2021 at the age of 75 after a brief bout with pancreatic cancer. He is recognized as a much-loved musician, educator, coach, mentor, guitar player, singer, songwriter, arts advocate, radio host, entertainer and promoter of bluegrass music.
Just prior to his death, he received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the most prestigious award that the Governor of North Carolina Roy Cooper can bestow upon a citizen, because of his significant contributions to his community and the state. Many musicians respected and admired his picking, songwriting and passion for music, including the Chatham Rabbits who will join the Bluegrass Experience in playing three songs in memory of him immediately following the stage dedication.
