Bear Creek, NC – On February 20, 2023, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man molesting a child family member and recording the victim in the bathroom on his cellphone.
A search warrant was issued to seize the suspect’s phone and extract data from it. Meanwhile, a child medical evaluation was completed on the victim and after authorities reviewed all evidence, charges were issued on Charles Phillip Trotter, 46, of 1304 Vernie Phillips Road, Bear Creek.
While investigators were executing a search warrant at Trotter’s residence on May 1, they found a felony amount of marijuana.
Trotter was arrested by Deputy Chris Scales for indecent liberties with a child, sexual battery, manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for drugs, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Trotter was issued a $150,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on May 15.
