Ongoing concerns lead to second search warrant on animal cruelty

Bear Creek, NC – Following a prior search warrant executed on January 25, 2024, at 1360 Oakley Church Road, Bear Creek, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is conducting another search warrant today in response to ongoing concerns regarding the welfare of dogs at the same location.

On January 25, multiple dogs were seized, and Alicia Dawn Culberson, 36, the owner, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

The initial investigation was prompted by a concerned citizen who reported distressing sounds emanating from numerous dogs kept on the property.

Sheriff’s Office investigators returned to the property today to address ongoing concerns about additional dogs.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is working with Bissell Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization, in partnership with Animal Rescue Corps, a national nonprofit animal protection organization, to remove additional dogs from the property.

Additional information on the investigation will be released later today.
