Chapel Hill, NC – The Woods Charter School girls’ cross-country team ran extremely well, finishing runner-up and earning a spot in the 1A state championships on Saturday, January 23 in Kernersville. This is the first time in school history that the girls have finished as a runner-up in their region. It also marks the first time since 2015 that the team has qualified for the state championships.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Leading the Wolves’ girls was Ellie Poitras who finished 2nd overall in a new big PR of 20:06. Ellie’s finish also earned her all-region.
- Maddie Sparrow finished 4th overall (also all-region) in a big PR of 21:15.
- Ember Penney and Grace Costa finished with season-best times. Ember improved her season-best by almost a full minute.
- Ellie, Maddie, Ember, Chloe Richard, and Grace all finished in the top 20 for team scores, playing a big role in securing the girl’s qualification to the state championships.
