Aqua North Carolina reports untreated wastewater discharge in Governors Club

Chatham County, NC – Aqua North Carolina reports the discharge of untreated wastewater near 10738 Governors Drive, Chapel Hill, NC on October 26, 2022, due to a service line break. An estimated amount of 1,750 gallons of wastewater discharged into Overcup Creek located in the Cape Fear River Basin.

Aqua personnel stopped the spill upon arrival to the site.  Aqua personnel, in addition to an environmental response contractor contained the spill in the immediate area, repaired the broken line, and remediated the impacted area.

General Statute 143-215.1C requires that the owner of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.

In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to the media in Chatham County.
