Siler City, NC – An investigation into a reported runaway juvenile has led to the arrest of a Carrboro man on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and human trafficking involving a child victim.
On April 12, 2025, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a concerned mother after her child went missing. During the investigation, deputies learned that the juvenile had been communicating with an unidentified adult male through social media.
Further examination of the juvenile’s phone revealed conversations with 22-year-old Edwin Silva-Badillo of 201 NC 54, Apt 106, Carrboro.
Investigators determined that Silva-Badillo had made three separate trips from Carrboro to Siler City, during which he picked up the juvenile and transported her to his apartment.
In July 2024, Silva-Badillo plead guilty to two counts of indecent liberties with a child in relation to sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16, and received a sentence of 18 months probation with a suspended sentence of 16-29 months incarceration, and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
Although he was subsequently arrested on, charged with, and plead guilty to resisting a police officer and intoxicated and disruptive, a violation of his probation, Silva-Badillo was apparently not in custody over the weekend when the kidnapping/trafficking is alleged to have occurred.
A search warrant was executed at Silva-Badillo’s apartment by the Carrboro Police Department, which is
conducting an ongoing parallel investigation.
Silva-Badillo was arrested on April 16, 2025, and is being held without bond at the Chatham County Detention Center. He is charged by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office with three counts of felony kidnapping and three counts of felony human trafficking of a child victim.
He was scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on April 17, 2025.
